All Devices

A key requirement for all devices on MDM or Microsoft Intune is that they must be able to connect to the internet to enroll and be managed. Additionally, specific operating system versions are required for each platform (e.g., Android 10.0 and later for many management methods, iOS 9.0 and later for basic Company Portal use), and many platforms also require specific software or features, like an Apple ID for iOS/iPadOS or Google Mobile Services for Android.
Common requirements
  • Internet connectivity: Devices must be able to connect to the internet to enroll and communicate with Intune.
  • Intune account: A valid Microsoft Intune tenant account with the MDM authority set to Microsoft Intune is necessary.
Platform-specific requirements
    • Android:
      • Requires Android 10.0 or later for many management methods.
      • Requires devices to have Google Mobile Services (GMS) connectivity and be able to connect to it for Android Enterprise.
      • A connection between our Intune tenant and our Google Enterprise account is needed for Android Enterprise management.
  • iOS/iPadOS:
    • Requires iOS 9.0 or later to install the Company Portal app.
    • An Apple ID is required for device enrollment.
    • An MDM push certificate is required for device enrollment.
  • Windows:
    • Windows 10 or Windows 11 devices are supported, but functionality may vary for older versions like Windows 10, which reached end of support in October 2025.
    • Devices may need specific software preinstalled, such as the 64-bit version of Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise.
    • Multi-factor authentication is recommended for a more secure enrollment experience.
Important considerations
  • Devices are limited to a maximum of three enrolled devices per user, with enrollment failing for a fourth device.
  • Some policies may conflict with enrollment, requiring exclusions. For example, if a Conditional Access policy blocks certain apps, you may need to exclude the Microsoft Intune cloud app.
