For a device to be managed by Our Microsoft Intune MDM, it must meet several core requirements that apply across all supported platforms.
Core Requirements for all Devices
- Supported Operating System: The device must run a version of the operating system that is supported by Microsoft Intune. Intune typically supports the most recent OS versions, but the specific minimums vary by platform (e.g., Windows 10/11, specific Android and iOS versions).
- Internet Connectivity: The device needs a connection to the internet to communicate with the Intune service and receive policies and updates.
- MDM Authority Set to Intune: The organization’s Intune tenant must have the Mobile Device Management (MDM) authority set to Microsoft Intune.
- Assigned Intune License: The user or the device must have an appropriate and active Microsoft Intune license (or a license bundle that includes Intune) assigned to them.
- Microsoft Entra ID: Devices generally need to be registered or joined to Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) to be available to Intune and leverage features like Conditional Access.
- Company Portal or Intune App: For most enrollment methods, the device requires the installation of the Company Portal app (or the Microsoft Intune app for Linux) to facilitate enrollment and enforce compliance policies.
- Security Requirements: Devices may need to meet basic security compliance requirements defined by the organization, such as using a strong password/PIN, having data encryption enabled, and having antivirus software running.
