Tablet Problems

Since the issue persists even after a factory reset, it is likely a hardware failure rather than a software glitch. The most common causes and the decision of whether to fix it are detailed below:
Potential Causes
  • Battery Degradation: This is the most common reason for immediate shutdowns after power-on. Even if the screen displays 100%, the battery may no longer be able to provide the necessary peak voltage to sustain the system during boot-up, causing a “voltage drop” shutdown to protect electrical components.
  • Failed Battery Calibration: The software may be misreading the battery level. You can attempt to recalibrate by holding the power button for 30 seconds while the device is off, then charging it for at least 30 minutes before trying again.
  • Motherboard or Charging Board Failure: Internal hardware faults, such as a short on the motherboard or a failing charging circuit, can cause unstable power delivery and sudden shutdowns.
  • Faulty Buttons: A physically jammed or “mushy” power button can trigger an unintentional power-off command shortly after startup.
Is it worth fixing?
Whether you should repair it depends on the tablet’s age and type of damage:
  • Worth Fixing (Usually):
    • Simple Battery Replacement: If it is a high-end tablet (e.g., iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab S) and only the battery needs replacing, professional repair is usually $50–$150, which is significantly cheaper than a new premium tablet.
    • Minor Hardware: Cleaning a dirty charging port or replacing a faulty charging cable is very low-cost and often solves “fake” full-charge issues.
  • NOT Worth Fixing:
    • Budget Tablets: If the repair cost (labor + parts) exceeds 50% of the tablet’s current market value, replacement is advised.
    • Motherboard Failure: If a service center identifies a motherboard or “logic board” issue, the cost is often nearly as much as a new device.
  • Final Recommendation: Before deciding, test the tablet while it is plugged into the wall charger. If it stays on while plugged in but shuts off immediately when unplugged, the battery is almost certainly the culprit.
